Honestly, Is it worth it for me?

I'm new to this scene but I just ran my report and I think its looking ugly.

I really want to cut the cable ASAP but good reception is important for me. If I can't get cbs, nbc, abc and fox in HD then its a deal breaker. I'm willing to invest in a high powered antenna, amplifier set top boxes etc if I knew I'd be able to watch OTA HD network broadcasts. What do you all think?

It isn't all that bad: yes, you have hills blocking the Empire State Building where you are, but the NYC stations are all in positive noise-margin numbers: you should see all the major NYC stations with the right antenna system.

This is a situation where I would use my deep-fringe prescription: I have posted it before, but I will link it here so you can use it.

Thanks Tigerbangs! Glad to hear it's not a lost cause. I saw in your post that you listed 3 antennas in the equipment list but the picture illustrating the setup only seemed to have two and two of the antennas looke to be the same type;

Winegard YA 1713 Prostar 1000 10 El. Hi-Band VHF TV Antenna (YA-1713)
Antennacraft Y10-7-13 Highband-Broadband VHF TV Antenna (Y10-7-13)

Is this an either or situation or would I require both (n addition to the UFH antenna). Please excuse my ignorance if this should be obvious. Thanks again for your help.

No Problem!

The AntennasDirect XG-91 is a UHF only antenna: the Winegard YA-1713 and the AntennaCraft Y-10-7-13 are VHF antennas. I gave a choice between the two VHF antennas, but recommended only the AntennasDirect XG-91 for UHF, so it's an either/or situation on VHF.

one other question. Since it seems all of the stations I'd like to receive are in the same direction, would I still need a rotator on the antenna?

if you are only interested in the NYC stations, then you don't need a rotator: you will just have to aim the antenna array once, and you'll be fine.
