I picked up a GE outdoor futura omni-directional antenna and hoisted it up the mast on my roof, but only get about 12 channels: 9, 11, 13 and higher. Do I need a rooftop directional antenna to get NBC, ABC, CBS or is a better grade omni-directional acceptible and if so can someone recommend a reliable brand/model in either case? I'm a little overwhelmed by the amount of info on zones and antenna types. Thanks so much!

It looks like the Verdugo mountain range is obstructing your view of Mt Wilson. You are in a fairly deep shadow so to speak. I would not look to an omnidirectional antenna in your situation. You need an antenna capable of gathering a weak signal, for example:

Many antennas with built in amplifiers are prone to signal overload. In a metropolitan area like Burbank there are likely many sources or RF interference that could pose a problem to an amplifier designed for low signal levels. You will need an amplifier though, so I would suggest one capable of high input levels. For example:
http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?mc=03&p=ANWHDP269&d=Winegard-HDP-269-High-input-PreAmplifier-%28HDP269%29&c=Pre-Amplifiers&sku=615798396145

Aim at about 65° according to your compass. The antenna will perform much better if located outside, clear of obstructions. Generally, the higher you mount the antenna, the better. But in your case, even a 100' tower will not give you a clear line of site. Therefor, be prepared to experiment with the exact mounting height and aim point.

Yes, you need a rooftop antenna. No, there is no onidirectional antenna that is appropriate for you.

Consider a HD7696P or HBU44
