Getting LA stations in North County, San Diego, but no SD stations?

House in southwest area of Black Mountain Ranch. Using a ClearStream Micron XG, I can get a lot of Los Angeles stations (>90 miles away), but only 7/39 or Fox (if I re-orient the antenna) from local stations.

Has anyone else had similar reception experiences in SD? Resolution? I need to stay away from outdoor antennas.

Most probably, your on a spot where there is a good signal path to the northwest while the path to the south southeast is severely impaired.

The house has an unobstructed, almost 180 degree, view to the north. We have neighbors on the east/west sides of the house, and the rest of our local neighborhood is to the south. There is no severe terrain in our immediate area, but there are some hills to the west.

I should add that reception of the LA stations is with the Micron XG located downstairs, so the height is about 2'. The generated report was for an antenna height of 15' (anticipate putting the antenna upstairs), but I did not notice any significant differences in the reports.

You are correct about signal path. House has almost a 180 degree unobstructed view to the north.

There are houses immediately on the east and west, and a community to the south.

No "real terrain" in the immediate vicinity, but a small hill to the west.

"LA stations" are okay, but would prefer to get the local broadcasts.

Have your tried putting the antenna in front of a south-facing window?

Much construction in southern California uses stucco as an exterior surface. Unfortunately, stucco has a wire mesh backing at effectively blocks radio signals. Additionally, much of newer construction also uses radiant barrier foil which does the same thing.

Give the antennas placement as much favor as you can and see what you can do.

Please run new reports at 30' and at 50'. While likely not practical for installation, those reports allow us to better visualize terrain impairments on your signal path.

South-facing windows are pretty much a non-starter, given the house's floor-plan and orientation on the lot. Best possible might be a west-facing window with a south-west exposure.

So, do you have stucco or radiant barrier? If you do, then you're completely dead in the water for any indoor antenna.

You'll have to evaluate if, at a minimum, an attic location is available.

Keep in mind that, for ANY antenna to work, the signals must reach it.
