Any installer in Edmonton?

HI,

I'm having too much trouble installing an antenna I bought for OTA HDTV, and am looking for someone to help. The problem is that , although I have a coax cable wired to my roof-top patio, it's not in a location where I can use the antenna (right near Metal flashing, and right by the neighbours roof-top patio). The place that would be ideal for installation is right near where two cat-5 cables were wired, but no coax.... AND , if I could figure all that out, I still don't know how to ground the antenna once up. I originally wanted to just install it in the garage (and indeed that's where the mount is already mounted) but I couldn't get a signal.... I've spent too much time on this, with little progress.. Any help out there?

thanks!

Thank you for your reply! The email notification must have gone to junk as I'm only seeing this now in revisiting this forum, STILL looking for an installer!

The only thing is those two installers are in Ontario, I'm in Alberta, far away...

Any other installers, in Edmonton ? THANKS!

Hi jukikee,
I'm not sure, as I live in Ontario, but have you tried searching for satellite installers? I think some also will install antennas.

Have you tried the Search function at the top of the page?

Or Google?

Digitalhome.ca covers OTA, there might be an answer there.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I've tried contacting satellite installers but haven't come across one yet who actually knows about OTA! I find that surprising!

I"ll check out the other suggestions you've made. Thanks very much, I appreciate it. It seems like it would be such a straightforward job, I'm just not confident about drilling into the side of my (almost new) house and the grounding part...

If you show us a tvfool report for your location, maybe we can help a little more. What antenna did you buy?

Grounding OTA / Dish / CATV / Telecom - See Post 1
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/15-h...-post-1-a.html

The coax shield should be grounded with a grounding block that is connected to the house electrical system ground with 10 gauge copper wire for electrical safety and to reject interference. For further compliance with the electrical code (NEC in US), the mast should also be grounded in a similar manner to drain any buildup of static charge, but the system will not survive a direct strike.

An Edmonton electrician could do the grounding, mount the antenna, and run the wires. Do a temporary setup of an antenna before deciding on a permanent location.

The Best Buy stores in Edmonton sell Antennas Direct antennas and might have installers.

Wow, thanks so much! Very helpful! I didn't know Best Buy sold OTA antennas but it would make sense that they might know of installers. I'll check.

Here's my results from TV Fool:

I know it says an indoor antenna is likely sufficient, but I haven't found that to be the case. There is metal flashing around our house, and we live in the river valley. The roof top is wired with coax and power, and it's a flat roof, so it's easy enough to get up there and install.

And I have this antenna:
