Cut cable in Ottawa ON?

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...da325ea0f1469a

I currently have Rogers Cable TV, the full analog package (the one that includes TCM and AMC). I intend to cancel the cable subscription but living in a townhouse, I can't put up an exterior antenna (even the Bell dishes here are on a tripod not mounted to the wall).

My TV is a CRT so I'm not interested in receiving HD or even digital particularly, I would like to keep getting at least CBC and CTV (or whatever local signals are best) and will live on recorded programming and DVDs.

The linked report suggests a set-top antenna will likely get me analog stations CBC, SRC, CTV, Global, and CHCH (VHF), and Omni-1, Omni-2, A-Channel, CITY, TVO, TQS, and Crossroads (UHF). Twenty years ago, I tried Radio Shack's best set-top antenna in two Ottawa homes and got no useful signals, but I'm happy to try again (for what Rogers charges on this package, its either OTA or nothing).

I believe Canada is going all-digital later in 2011 and I don't know whether to plan for that or just deal with analog for now (the list of digital stations is even shorter than the analog list).

Any advice will be appreciated. Though I'd prefer not to mount a 3'x3' antenna in my living room if possible.

Thanks!

Tv Antennas and Reception

If the town home is not wrapped with any type or kind of metal such as but not limited to metal siding or stucko with stucko Wire. And the town home does not have a metal roof. And the walls are not made out of poured concrete. And the town home is somewhat free and clear and not blocked in by Big buildings to the west , south west and south. Then you will receive most of the Digital Channels in green starting at the top the strongest ones first. With a simple indoor antenna like one of these http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=233 . Canada Tv Stations ARE transmitting Digital NOW , like the USA and Mexico and the rest of the world the transistion is happening Now. Read and understand this about Real and Virtual Digital Tv channels. The same thing is happening in Canada with Real and Virtual Digital Tv Channels . http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=695 . Here is information about how to point Tv antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html . Here is information about Canada Tv transition http://www.tvtechnology.com/article/105462 . Canada is transmitting digital now , digital is easyer to receive then analog and has crystal clear pictures , you will need to have a digital tv or a digital to analog converter box. Higher is almost always better with tv antennas . If the town home has a second story , a tv antenna can be put up there and run a coax to the down stairs tv.

Internet Tv

It is my understanding that Roku/Netflix is available in Canada now , Roku is the little box that receives streaming movies and tv shows through the internet. The internet connection needs to have a speed of 1.5 Mbps or more.
