Channels Dwindling

In northwestern Illinois I have an antenna in my attic which over the summer would provide up to 40 channels at night and early morning or during the proper weather conditions during the day. Over the last 2 months it went from 15 channels regularly after sundown and now no more than 9 channels day and night, no matter the time.

I'm using a Vizio HDTV 46 inch with a 36db signal boost. I've done everything regarding channel search protocol, antenna turning & while somewhat familiar with weather/tropospheric affects I'm at a loss to figure out why the channel availability became so low. I'm using an RCA digital flat square antenna in an upstairs window at times that does provide for 10 channels I don't normally get from the attic antenna.

The closest tv tower is 34 miles away and those signals haven't changed, they're good. Its the ones that are around 60 miles away that no longer come in like they used to. Are the cold temps to blame?

What is the make and model number of the antenna that is in the attic??

------
With the Tv antenna in the attic the most likely cause of declining reception is/are , weather related , snow and ice , atmospheric conditions , the antenna is in the attic , Tv signals about 60 miles distant , Tv signals are very weak signal strength , edge path obstructions .

------
The Current Tv channels that are being Transmitted and Received in the , USA , Canada , Mexico , are

VHF low band channels , 2 thru 6 .

VHF high band channels , 7 thru 13 .

UHF band channels , 14 thru 51 .

Looking at the tvfool radar report and channel list for the Digital Current Plus Pending Applications Included , the Real Channels list column , shows receivable Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels in all 3 channel bands.

------
For improved and reliable reception install above the Peak of the Roof in such a manner that the reception is not , obstructed , impeded , blocked , by the roof and building in the directions of , South West , West , North West , North East , South East .

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a Negative Effect on Broadcast Tv Reception and so do buildings and other obstructions in the directions of reception including your own roof and building.

Some and not all Negative Effects are

Absorbing , Blocking , Reception

Multi-Path Reflecting Tv signals bouncing all around.

The Best Practice is to install the antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.

------

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels often named the ~ DTV Channels ~ Antenna Channels ~ Air Channels ~ in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissiuons travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some digital tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select ~ DTV Channels ~ Antenna Channels ~ Air Channels ~.

Scan for channels.

----

Digital Tv tuners can develop - Digital Glitches - that are not cleared out with simple channel scans.

Clear Tuner with Double Rescan.

Any chance your amp is dead?

Loose connections or degraded coax somehow?

Could you take a known good lead from the antenna without the amp straight to the tv and see what you get?

Way smarter chaps will be along.

Don't know the details on the antenna make or model in the attic, it was here when I moved in. Got a slew of channels last night after using some quad shield coax.

I've got permission to mount an antenna outside, I rent right now and may do that though I'm not sure yet.

It is not the quad shield cable that producing the slew of channels.

It is replacing bad and defective with good and working.

Standard coax will do the same.

-----

Buzz Words-->Quad Shield<--Buzz Words

People -->Latch On<-- to Buzz Words

The buzz words become All Important

The buzz words become the Only Truth

Any thing other then the buzz words will not be correct

This is one of the many ways that Missinformation is spread and results in less then good results.

It is not that quad shield coax is bad , it is the buzz words that are not good.
