Help with Setup

Hello,
Switching from satellite back to the good old antenna Tried it last night and very impressed with the picture quality. Excited to save some $$!
Here is my report
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...b1a860b413c64d

We have an older radio shack rotating antenna (disc style, looks like a UFO - sorry don't know what it's called) mounted on the roof. Our house still has the really old antenna tower on it so we can move it higher (up to 25 or 30 feet, likely). Out in the country, so minimal obstructions. We got some channels when we tried it, but had to move the antenna to get more. Then we had to rescan for channels through the tv. Would like a system where we don't have to move anything to get the max amount of channels.

Do we need any sort of amplifier? What equipment recommendations do you have? Absolutely must get CTV and TVO ... NBC, CBC, ABC and PBS would be fantastic.

Thanks for all your help. (And don't worry, my hubby is way more literate in this stuff than I am and he will be doing all the installation and technical stuff. It's just my job to go on a 'parts run'!

A simple system that would deliver your request, but not NBC, CBS, or ABC. Would be to use an Antenna Craft CS600 VHF antenna aimed to 41 degrees magnetic. This will deliver CTV 13, and channel 6. Use a Winegard AP2800 UHF antenna to deliver the stations at 278 degrees magnetic including your TVO 18. Combind the two antennas into a Winegard AP 2870 amplifier. This will ensure good reception of any of the weaker channels and allow for the use of a single coax.

To receive US networks you would need to go to a more powerfull all channel antenna and a rotor. I would recommend the Winegard 8200 antenna, a Winegard 7800 amplifier, and a Aspen Eagel Roto 100.

Tv Antennas and Tv Reception

The Current Plus Pending Applications Included shows that the American stations at 25 feet antenna height are just beyond the finger tips. And also the Canada Tv station CHCH is weak. More antenna height might help.

Make 2 more tvfool radar polar plots , 40 , 60 , feet.

Thanks for the info.
Here is the map at 40ft
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...b1a84fa1a5a7dc
and 60ft
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...b1a8ffa07f2f77

Would the Winegard 8200 antenna need to be rotated when changing channels? Or is it an omnidirectional antenna? Definitely want to set it up once and not monkey with a rotator if possible.

And for reference, we got several of the 'grey' channels when we tried it last night. Between the 2 positions we had the antenna in, we got 31.1, 18.1, 20.1, 28.1, 53, 26.1, 4.1, 7.1, 61.1, 51.1, 66.1. Thought it was odd that we didn't easily get all of the green and yellow channels.

Thanks for all of your help. Asked at the Source store here and they were totally clueless. :P

No rotor is required to receive the USA and Canada Tv stations.
Ok a big thank you for WICU-DT 12 that has made it much easier to receive NBC , CW , CBS , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WICU-TV. WQLN 50 PBS , WJET-TV 24 ABC , WNYB 26 Religion , are of the same direction as WICU . For reception of the American stations aim a Winegard HD9095P antenna with a Winegard AP8275 preamp at about 156 degree magnetic compass .

And Now for the Canada Digital Tv stations , install a Antennas Direct Clear Stream 2 Complete with a Winegard AP8275 preamp , aimed at about 270 degree magnetic compass for reception of the Canada Tv stations to the north/east and west.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html. .
The antennas should be mounted no lower the 40 feet and preferably at 60 feet . You can try reception of the USA and Canada stations at 25 feet and this will give you an indication of what to do next. .

This is 2 Separate antenna systems that Will Not be connected togeather on to one coax.

The 2 Separate systems and coaxes will go to the location of the Tv and be connected to a remote control A/B antenna switch , http://mcmelectronics.com , # 32-4425 , http://www.saveandreplay.com , has the same A/B switch. . The output of the A/B switch is connected to the Tv.

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. http://www.saveandreplay.com , http://www.trentondistributors.com , http://www.amazon.ca , http://www.canadapost.ca/shopper , http://www.amazon.com , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.antennasdirect.com/store/...VHF-Combo.html , http://www.winegarddirect.com.

It is possible to find used towers by searching on the internet. .

Here are towers that are made of light weight aluminum and , Lay over , so all antenna installation and adjustments can be made standing on the ground. http://www.palcoelectronics.com/pe300.aspx. The aluminum towers are light weight and can be laid down and pushed up by one person.

And if that is too complicated and too expensive, the simple system will give you the results that you requested.

The CBC might be transmitting as a Analog Tv channel at your location. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CBLT#Transmitters.

Here is some interesting information about Tv stations , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CFPL-DT , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CJMT-DT , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CFMT-DT , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WQLN_(TV) , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WJET-TV

Sorry about the wrong number on the UHF antenna headed West. Type-o. The antenna I intended to recommend is Winegard HD-9022HD. My mistake.
