Question guidance understanding what will work

Ok, so I am buy or trying to choose an antenna for a family member who is in the boonies of NW Pennsylvania. About 30 out from the nnw transmitters of the Erie Broadcast area. No cable is even available out there. House faces nw on a hill with some woods surrounding the home. Rabbit ears inside work ok to get major networks but when weather is bad it stops and starts. Going by the info on the antenna website by the FEDs I need an antenna (coded for green reception) that can be easily mounted outdoors but does it need to be amplified or not? When I think I have found what works someone else will post on the Internet that it worked like crap. I do not understand all the info on the ratings and dbls listed on the fed site so I am totally lost. Any help would be appreciated. Don't think I need Omni or multi directional because the towers are near each other at the NNW location of 30 miles out.

Please make and post a Tvfool radar plot and channel list report.

Go to the Tvfool home page and click on >>Start MAPS<<.

Enter the Exact address.

Make the antenna height in the report 25 feet above ground in the report.

25 feet antenna height above ground is a reference antenna height that provides a good idea of the Tv stations that are receivable at the location.

Click on the Make Radar Map button.

If the Exact address does not work then move the pointer to the the reception location.

Click on the Make Radar Map button.

Post the report so a recommendation can be made for reception at the location.

A Simple reception situation.

Above the Peak of the Roof in such as manner that reception is not , obstructed , impeded , blocked , by the roof and building in the directions of , North North West .

Install a , www.antennacraft.net , HBU11K antenna that comes with the , J pole type antenna mount.

-----

Aim the HBU11 antenna at about 330 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how aim antenna , www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna.

A antenna system amplifier is not required.

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a simple common 2 way splitter.

An excellent, low cost recommendation.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the ~ DTV Channels ~ Antenna Channels ~ Air Channels ~.
In the Digital Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable Tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable Tv channels.

Go into the Digital Tv Setup Menu and select ~ DTV Channels ~ Antenna Channels ~ Air Channels ~.

Scan for channels.

--------

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a Negative Effect on Broadcast Tv Reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house in the directions of reception.

Some and not all Negative Effects are

Absorbing , Blocking , Reception

Multi-Path Reflecting Tv signals bouncing all around.

The Best Practice is to install the antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and building.
