Help with Antenna exp. VHF

Hello All,

What a wonderful resource this is. I now have a new TV that is cable of receiving digital signals and would like to install and outside antenna. The signal profile is here;http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...5b944e32562f18

This is a rural location that is quite clear in all directions.

My main priority is CBC @ channel 11. I would also like to get TVO and if possible PBS. From the profile it appears that PBS is the least likely.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Brian

The signal strengths of the USA Tv stations are weak signal strength , at 20 feet antenna height above ground in the tvfool report.

To see if signal strengths improve at higher antenna heights above ground please make and post tvfool reports with antenna heights at 40 and 60 feet above ground.

Greetings Bburt!

It is good you posted your plots at 30', 40' and 60'. You have vast improvement at 40'. Recommend 40' antenna height if possible.

You also have signals coming from multiple directions. For your stated goals of CBC, TVO and PBS I would start with an Antenna Direct DB8e. http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=DB8E&ss=6630. This antenna covers UHF (channels 14 and up) and allows you flexibility of orientating both halves of the antenna in specific headings. To begin, recommend one half of antenna orientated to magnetic 131 for PBS, ABC and possible CBS reception. Other half of DB8e orientate to heading 283 for TVO.

Test reception including real channel 11 cbc. CKWS has a pretty good signal. You may not even need a second antenna even though the DB8e is UHF only. If CKWS is unreliable, add a Antennacraft Y5-7-13 antenna. http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=Y5-7-13&ss=6665 Mount 4' below DB8e on same mast. Orientate Y5-7-13 to magnetic 135.

Purchase Antennas Direct EU385CF-1 signal combiner. http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp...u=853748001705. Run coax from DB8e to UHF coax input, run coax from Y5-7-13 to VHF combiner input. This combines both antennas into a single lead going into your home.

This configuration ought to yield you: CBC, PBS, ABC and TVO reliably. CBS may even make an appearance.

If needed a preamp such as a RCA TVPRAMP1R http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp...catvpramp1r%29 may be appropriate. Add inbetween DB8e and combiner. Do not amplify Y5-7-13. There is plenty of signal on real channel (RF) 11.

Happy signal hunting!
