Almost complete, just need antenna.

My old antenna fell down last fall. I've been spending a lot of time researching what I would need in order to once again receive solid OTA signals. I replaced all of the wiring in the house with quad shielded RG6 cable. The new antenna will be split between 4 TVs. I also have a Winegard AP-8700 pre amp sitting in the box that can used, if needed. I recently inspected and reinforced my 30 foot tower. I just got up enough nerve to climb it and completely remove the old antenna. That all said, I just need an antenna to install. Here is my report:

I will not be installing a rotor. I also want to stick with a combo antenna as opposed to separate antennas. Size and weight also needs to be manageable,*preferably* less than or equal to the size of a Winegard HD-7696. I mainly only care about getting the major networks, but I would love to pic up some extra stations (I used to get Ion Network and even Detroit with my old antenna). I do get the major local stations already with a small indoor amplified antenna, but I am tired of the signal cutting off every time someone walks in front of it or turns on the microwave.

Any advice is appreciated.

Tv antennas and Tv reception

This recommendation is based on the current with Pending Applications Included as of 02-04-2012. For the reception of , WUPW , WNWO , WGTE , WBGU , WTVG , WTOL , W38DH , WPDX , WMYD , and what ever else is received. Install a ANT751 aimed at about 40 degree magnetic compass. The the tv stations , WLMB , WUPW , WNWO , are very strong and will overload the AP8700. Install a Channel Master CM3414 Distribution amplifier. Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html. Home Depot may have the ANT751 , here are places to buy antennas and etc . , http://www.channelmasterstore.com , http://www.solidsignal.com, http://www.amazon.com , http://www.starkelectronic.com , http://www.3starinc.com

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to my post. I will not use the preamp and will return it. I will install a new antenna and connect it directly to my main TV and see what kind of signal I receive. I will then try a 4-way passive splitter and see what effect that has. If I determine there is too much signal loss, I will purchase the distribution amp you suggested.

Yes a very good sequence of events , install the ANT751 connected direct to the tv , then install a 4 way splitter and if signal level is to low then install the CM3414. WMYD 21 MyNet is the tv station that has the low signal strength at 7.1 NM(dB) in the list and is the reason for the CM3414 distribution amp. The ANT751 is aimed at WMYD to increase the signal strength. Also the the ANT751 is not a very directional antenna and will receive tv transmissions from other directions.
