Antenna help!!!!

All,

This is first time I cut loose with cable company and put my own antenna. I need help in choosing the right antenna.

I live around 36 miles from both Hi VHF and UFH. I purchase the Mohu leaf plus before, it picked all the UHF channels and won't work any Hi VHF channels. There is no indoor antenna at this point for me.

So I need to decide betwen the Denny HD stacker and Winegard HD8200U to put in my attic around 20 feet above the ground. I know the signal will lose 50% due to indoor. Any suggestion on which one is good?

Thanks for all your help.

Both are 'good' for certain situations. Without seeing your TV Fool report, it's impossible to say that either are appropriate for your situation.

Oops, here is the report http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...9900deb1ecd57c

These two or any other recommendation would greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Neither of the two antennas you considered are good choices.

All you need is a modest high-VHF/UHF (7-51) antenna. Aim it towards Missouri City.

I would point a Winegard HD7694P at 171° compass and be thrilled that almost all signals originate from the same direction. If you're enamored with the Stacker, it's roughly equivalent but the price at Amazon for the 7694 runs circles around the price for the Stacker.

No preamplifier, the strength and quantity of signals will overload most all amplifiers. You should have no difficulty driving a 4 or even 8-way passive splitter.

Tv Reception.

A simple reception situation.

Above the roof install a Winegard HD7696P antenna with No amplifier aimed at about 160 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Here are some above the roof antenna mounts , http://www.ronard.com/909911.html , http://www.ronard.com/34424560.html , http://www.ronard.com/ychim.html , http://www.ronard.com.

Buy the ronard antenna mounts at solidsignal by typing the word ronard in the solidsignal search box.

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.winegarddirect.com , http://www.amazon.com.

For 1 Tv connected use no splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a common simple 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a common simple 3 way splitter.

For 4 Tv's connected use a common simple 4 way splitter.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Tv Reception.

The stacker does have a emotional following of people.

The price of the stacker is $129.00.

There is nothing special or magic about the reception of the stacker.

I say that the stacker is upside down antenna.

The VHF high band part of the antenna should be on the bottom and the UHF part on top.

The price of the Winegard HD7696P antenna is $77.99 at solidsignal.

Yes put the HD7696P that receives more signal then the HD7694P in the attic.

And yes can put the stacker in the attic.

Thanks all for your suggestion, but both of HD7696 and HD7694 range is max out at 50miles. If I put them in my attic, does the signal cut in half?

Tv Reception.

As Always , antenna mileage numbers are a ->general <- target number for the general public.

A antenna has no way to stop receiving at 50 miles.

Strong Tv transmissions will be received past 50 miles.

Weak Tv transmissions might not be received to 50 miles.

The information you read about attics is , attics can reduce signal strength by 50% or more. There again , the number is a target number.

If the attic of your building is wood with wood or vinyl siding and the roof is the composition type singles and there is - No Metal Backed Insulation - in the attic and the roof is not metal and there are no solar panels then reception of the antenna in the attic will most likely be very good with a HD7696P antenna.

The Tv transmissions are Strong at your location , ->Many , many , many , many , many <- Tv stations are in the Green and Yellow colored reception zones of the tvfool radar plot report and Tv station channel list.
