Suggestions please?

I set up a GE attic mount antenna model# 34792 out of boredom just a temporary deal on a mic stand in the living room. I was able to receive 2.1,2.2,3.1,3.2,36.1,36.4, 16.1,16.2,16.3, no 11 or 11.1. Played around with a RCA ANT751R 25' up on a one story stick built home off of chimney. At the top no structural blockage, got 11.1 and had to FIGHT to get 2 and 3 but never stable. Scanned, rescanned etc. Based on following report does anyone have any suggestions? As far as where RCA was pointed it was same direction as attic mount.

Thanks

I'd guess that the attic antenna isn't able to pick up VHF, which is where you'll find Ch 11. The ANT751 can tune VHF & UHF, so it picks up 11 for you. So what direction are you pointing them? Based on your plot, I'd have started at NE and see how it tunes from there. I will say that some of those channels are a stretch for the 751 at 60+ miles, but if you have a good clear view, it may work for you. You also potentially could use a UVSJ and put the 751 on the VHF side and the attic antenna on the UHF side.

The attic does have VHF if I move it outside I pick up 11 then too but again a fight for the others. As far as the direction I'll have to check when I go back tomorrow. Perhaps a more powerful antenna like Antennas DIrect C2-V-CJM? An amplifier? I guess what gets me is the 2.1 2.2 with the antenna inside the house those are over 50 miles away, I thought by going higher maybe I'd get more reception for the 751 to grab 11 as well, There are some trees around I don't know...... Thanks for the help

So possibly indoors the signals are getting reflected a little bit and it works in your favor? To compare antennas, you really have to mount them in the same spot. What seems to be best, outside, may not always be the case, but usually it is.

Ch 2 is broadcast from a 1000 kw transmitter, which is strong. That's obviously helping you pull it so well from 60+ miles.

I'm not sure what to recommend for you. That C2-V you mention covers VHF & UHF. If you can buy it locally and return if it doesn't work better, then it'd be worth a shot. A longer range antenna tends to be more directional, and with that reflector on the back, I'd think that if you tune in Ch 2, you'd struggle for Ch 3 since it comes from the near opposite direction. But so many things play into it. Line of sight, building materials, walls, trees, cable, etc.

Hopefully we get another opinion on this one for you.

Thanks Elmo,

I hear what you are saying. I can buy the Cv2 locally as I did the 751 and am returning it. I did that same temp setup with the 751 as the GE also with nowhere near as good results. I had read of people removing the reflector from the cv2 to allow signal reception from both directions That's why I had asked about it. But I had also read about having TOO much antenna so wasn't sure. As long as I can get the majors from one direction I don't really care if it's 2 or 3 north or south as long as I can get them. With the success of the temp attic mount setup I just thought I might be able to 'go for broke'. Rainy morning probably no rooftop work for me until tomorrow(STEEP) I might go back out then and play with a compass and see what happens.

Still open to any and all suggestions on brands 2 vs 1 etc. from anyone willing to provide input.

Thanks

WJWJ-DT REAL UHF digital channel 44 , virtual number (16.1) PBS is strong signal strength station and will be received no matter what direction a antenna is aimed.

The other Digital Tv stations/channels to the , south west and north east are weak and weaker signal strength.

For reliable reception of the 2 groups of Tv stations to the , south west and north east , I recommend 2 Separate antenna systems.

Antenna system #1.

Aim a Winegard HD7696P antenna at about 66 degree magnetic compass direction , north east.

Install a Winegard AP8700 preamp.

For 1 Tv connected use no splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a , HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a , HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Antenna system #2.

Aim a Winegard HD7696P antenna at about 242 degree magnetic compass direction. South west.

Install a Winegard AP8700 preamp.

For 1 Tv connected use no splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a , HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

For 3 TV's connected use a , HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

The HD7696P antennas must be installed/mounted above the roof in such a manner that reception is not blocked by the roof or the house in the directions of , south west , north , north east.

Here are some strong and sturdy antenna mounts , http://www.ronard.com/909911.html , http://www.ronard.com/34424560.html , http://www.ronard.com/ychim.html , http://www.ronard.com.

Buy the ronard antenna mounts at solidsignal by typing the word ronard in the solidsignal search box.

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com , http://www.winegarddirect.com.

Buy the HFS splitters at , http://www.hollandelectronics.com , or , http://www.solidsignal.com.

_______________________________________________________

Antennas Systems 1 and 2 are Separate all the way to the location/s of the Tv/s and will not be connected together on to 1 coax.

At each Tv location will be a Remote control A/B coax antenna switch.

http://www.radioshack.com , #15-1968 , or , http://www.mcmelectronics.com , #32-4425.

_______________________________

As always , trees and tree leaves do a real fine job of reducing or blocking Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own house.

It is best to install antennas at a location that has little to no obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own house.

The Tv/s Must channel scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.
