Antenna selection upstate NY

Hi,

Currently have an older rooftop antenna with sketchy wiring. According to http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...990074bded4dc2 I should be receiving more channels than I do as I don't even get the strong stations reliably. I do have a large tree blocking the west where most of the signals are coming from.

I would be ecstatic if I could receive the top 9 stations on the report and I don't care if I receive the one VHF station on 6. So it looks like a UHF antenna is ok. Any recommendation on a specific model? I will rewire to TV if necessary. I only have one TV and it is less than 30 feet from antenna. Should I use coax for wire? And can I just aim toward the west where most of the stations are? Channel 15 actually comes in (usually) on the setup I have now.

Thanks so much.

For reception of all of the UHF channels to your West, install a Channel Master 4221 4 bay UHF antenna aimed to 280 degrees magnetic. Use RG 6 coax. Since you only run one set, I would buy the cable with the antenna. purchase the antenna and cable at www.solidsignals.com

Tv Reception.

Your location only has the UHF channels , channels 14 thru 51.

That is good , only one type and kind of antenna.

Install a Antennas Direct DB4e antenna (no preamp required) aimed at about 280 degree magnetic compass direction to receive the main groups of Tv stations That are to the north west and west.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

________________

There is also WSPX ION Television to the north.

To try and squeeze it in , try aiming the DB4e antenna at about 315 degree magnetic compass direction.

The reason I say squeeze it in is , angle of reception , of the TV stations from the north west to the north is a , very wide angle , and the antenna might not provide good reception of the Tv stations on the widest part of the angle of reception like , WYST , WNYS and WSPX. It is worth a try it is a simple matter of turning the antenna to give it a try.

If it does not work then aim the antenna at 280 degrees.

______________________

So then if you will like to receive ION.

Install a second antenna aimed at about 1 degrees , north.

Install a Winegard HD9095P. no preamplifier is required.

_______________________

The 2 antenna systems will not be connected on to 1 coax.

The 2 antenna systems will be separate all the way to the Tv location and the 2 separate coaxes will be connected to remote control A/B antenna switch , http://www.radioshack.com , #15-1968 , or , http://www.mcmelectronics.com , #32-4425 .

An A/B antenna switch is Channel Surfing Friendly , push the button on the hand held remote control , change antennas and keep on channel surfing.

Tv Reception.

As Always , trees and tree leaves in the directions of reception do a great job of reducing or blocking Tv reception.

And so do buildings in the directions of reception.

As always it is a good idea to locate the antenna where there is the least amount of objects in the way of reception.

The only way to find out how good the reception is , is to install the DB4e and find out.

Here are some common antenna mounts , http://www,ronard.com/909911.html , http://www.ronard.com/34424560.html , http://www.ronard.com/ychim.html , http://www.ronard.com.

Buy the ronard antenna mounts at solidsignal by typing the word solidsignal in the solidsignal search box.

Tv Reception.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Broadcast Tv Channels sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna' channels in the Tv setup menu because the the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.
