Want to get KDKA. Any antenna that will do this?

I just moved and want to get KDKA 2.1 OTA.. I have a wall mounted LCD that I ran an antenna into the attic for.. I bought the "Paper Thin Leaf" antenna and put it in my attic. I can get 19.1, 21.1, 21.2, 27.1, 27.2, 33.1, 33.2, 33.3, 45.1, 45.2, 45.3, 45.4, and 45.5 but not 2.1!!

Here is my TVFool

Is it possible to pick up KDKA with just an attic antenna? I have power up there if it would help to plug something in or whatever..

Thanks for the help!

KDKA is doable if you want it badly enough. You're going to need an UHF antenna with about 13db of gain, though. If you want 11 and 9 as well, you'll need a VHF combo. You'll want to point the antenna directly at KDKA and rely on the stronger signals to get picked up by the back of the antenna, so no reflector either.

Something like a Winegard 7084P
http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp...enna-(HD7084P)

Depending on how long your cable run and what your splitter setup is, you may need a preamp as well. The CPA-19 is a good choice http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp...lifier-(CPA19)

To do it right, you're going to want it mounted outside on the roof, too. It's big, so you're going to want help.

Update and Clarify information and typos. Date 05-23-2013.

ALL of the Digital Tv channels in the , Green , Yellow , Red , reception zones are UHF channels in the UHF channel band of 14 thru 51.

Except for receivable VHF high band channels of 9 and 11.

There are no receivable VHF low band channels of 2 thru 6.

That being the case , A UHF only antenna is what is used to receive the Digital Tv stations/channels in the directions of , North , South West , South , South East , East.

KDKA-DT REAL Digital UHF 25 , virtual number (2.1) CBS.

Is in fact transmitting on UHF channel 25 , not 02.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KDKA-TV.

Tvfool lists the -> Real channel of transmission and reception.

and the virtual number.

And install a Antennas Direct C5 VHF antenna aimed at about 155 degree magnetic compass direction for reception of WTOV 9 NBC and WPCW 11 The CW.
________________________________

The Antennas Direct C5 VHF antenna comes with a Diplexer/Combiner to connect the C5 and DB8 antenna together on to one coax.

________________________________

Above the roof install a Antennas Direct DB8.

And Antennas Direct C5 antenna.

Try reception with no preamp , with 1 Tv connected.

If a amplifier is required for reception of KDKA , install a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp to the output of the combiner.

The DB8 is connected to the UHF connection of the diplexer/combiner.

The C5 is connected to the VHF connection of the diplexer/combiner.

The remaining connection of the combiner is connected to the CPA-19 preamp.

________________________________

Remove the reflector screens from the DB8 and the DB8 will receive in 2 directions , at the front of the antenna and the back of the antenna.

Aim either side of the DB8 with the reflector screens removed , at about 135 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Here are some above the roof antenna mounts , http://www.ronard.com/909911.html , http://www.ronard.com/34424560.html , http://www.ronard.com/ychim.html , http://www.ronard.com.

Buy the ronard antenna mounts at solidsignal by typing the word ronard in the solidsignal search box.

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com

Update and Clarify information and typos. Date 05-23-2013.

The Tv Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select 'Air Channels' ~ 'Antenna Channels'.

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , Have a negative effect on reception , multi-path/reflecting , reducing , blocking , Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house.

It is best to install the DB8 and C5 antennas at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.to

The directions of , North , South West , South , South East , East.

I'm revisting this because that leaf I bought, I'm not happy with.. Channels break in and out way to often.. My chimney is right near my attic where my coax is run so I think it should be pretty easy to get in there..

So am I looking at getting the Winegard or the DB8 or something else??

Thanks so much.

That seems like a lot of antennas and loot! Can I just install the DB8 first and see what happens? I'm mainly interested in KDKA..

Thanks

For reception of KDKA , install the DB8 antenna above the Peak of the Roof in such a manner that the roof and house are not blocking reception to the south east at 148 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Leave the reflector screens on , do not remove the reflector screens from the antenna.

The CPA-19 preamp has been discontinued , if can not find a CPA-19 preamp then use a Winegard HDP-269 preamp.

So I installed a DB8 and pointed it at 148* and I get not a hint of KDKA.. I do have some trees blocking but shouldn't I at least get a whiff of it?

Here is a panoramic -

Can you get high enough to clear the nearby trees?

I hope that you didn't use a preamp. Any model I know would be overloaded.
