The WG HD1080 is FAR, FAR from omni-directional, as are most consumer TV antennas that claim such a characteristic. The HD1080 also has the weird characteristic of having its best VHF reception off the back, opposite the UHF reception. Data sheet:

You do not need nor should you use any type of amplifier, it would just cause new problems.
