My experience with random guesses is that it rarely gives anything other than random results. Most antennas including the products that Radio Shack used to sell are engineered by people who know the science and math.
Odds are you will ruin two good antennas and have an contraption that looks big but performs like a coat hanger.
Sorry to be so pessimistic, but that's how I see it.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
