I agree with ADTech, reliable reception (if it's possible) from Memphis will require a preamplifier that adds very little noise to the signal. The CPA-19 would be my choice if it was available. The RCA product is also a good amplifier provided you don't get one with defective switches (that select between configuration options).

That you got some reception from Memphis, for a time and then lost it is not surprising... Anything beyond 60 miles in flat terrain is going to be challenging at times.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
