It would be a problem if his house blocked the signals.

I think the Winegard Freevision would be an improvement over the Flatwave. The "X" wires are for UHF and the loops for VHF. You could make a temporary test of it in the attic before going outside; the signal loss in the attic is difficult to predict.

Another indoor antenna to consider is the Antennas Direct C2V. The loops are for UHF and the dipole is for VHF, indicated by the "V."

Another outside antenna to consider is the RCA ANT751. Since your mount has diagonal braces, you might be able to add a 5 ft mast extension.
