It sounds as if your attic construction may be less problematic than some. I'd use an Antennacraft HBU-33. If the attic proves to be a poor reception site, the HBU type antenna can be refolded and placed outdoors.

Try this with no amplifier. Only if you are driving long runs of cable to more than four tuners would I expect you to possibly need amplification.

Start with the antenna pointing NW and fine tune the aim point from there.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
