Hey guys, I am moving to a new house in a few weeks and have decided I am going to take the plunge and cancel my cable. I have always had cable, so I have absolutely no experience with antenna TV, but have been reading feverishly. I have done analysis on Antennaweb and TV fool, and seem to be getting very different answers, so I need some help.

My plan is to put my antenna in the attic if at all possible, to avoid going out on the roof or seeing the antenna from outside. It is a 2300 sqft 2 story colonial, so I figure it will be roughly 25-30 feet up, under a roof with 2 layers of asphalt shingles.
As for wiring, I would like to run one line to my bedroom (basically across the attic and down through a wall) one to the basement (going to run straight down through 2 closets to the basement) and then once there, split 1 to a TV in the basement, one up through the floor to my office, and one up through the floor to my living room.
As for stations, the ones I really care about are the main broadcast channels, ABC NBC CBS Fox and PBS, from Rochester, which luckily are all in a line and all on the same tower. My confusion comes from TV fool saying a small indoor will get most of what I want, while Antennaweb says I need a violet catagory antenna, the biggest there is.
So my question is, what the heck do I need to hook up my system and reliably receive those channels when placed in my attic? What is the cheapest and simplest option that will get me what I need? What other parts (pre-amps, splitters) will I need as well? Recommend a good co-ax to run?
