If this is a hobby interest, you may consider stacking or ganging two or four identical antennas. http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=1024 This strategy provides additional gain and directivity, theoretically eliminating the need for amplification. Ganging two or four 91-XG's would be a possibility if you were inclined to try.

ADTech and I agree that an amplifier in you location would likely be overloaded by the strong local stations.

FWIW a Yagi style antenna cut for channel 10, with sufficient gain (13dB or more) would be at least 18 feet long.

Again, this would be a hobbyist DX'rs project.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
