Others will make recommendations, but mine is the Y5-7-13 VHF antenna aimed at compass 238 degrees for Washington stations real channels 7 (WJLA-ABC) and 9 (WUSA-CBS) and a DB-8e for the UHF channels, including real channel 35 (WTTG-Fox) and 48 (NBC-WRC). You're also likely to get most of the DC stations. The Baltimore stations will be picked up on the backside.
It makes sense to try it in the attic, but don't be surprised if it doesn't work well. Make sure to try it in all areas of the attic facing the correct direction measured with a real compass.
