Greetings Joyinmyheart,
Your reception plot out of Port Huron isn't "easy," but with the proper antennas, you're chances are decent of successfully having the big 4 out of Detroit.
Being 50 miles from Detroit and in 2-edge conditions, the majority of the signals you'll be seeking are in the mid to low teens in terms of signal strength. These are trending weak to very weak. This requires a couple things. First, you have to mount your antenna outdoors. Your roof is the best location. Second, you need to make sure you have the best line of sight possible to the southwest.
An attic installation will not work in your scenario. These signals are too weak.
I would purchase (2) antennas. One would serve for UHF (real channels 14 and up) and one would serve VHF (real channels 7-13).
Antenna 1: Antennas Direct DB8e
Antenna 2: Antennacraft Y10713
Mount antenna on your chimney mount with a 10' chain link fence pole from your local super hardware type store (lowe's, home depot, etc.). If a chimney mount isn't an option use a Winegard three legged tripod mount.
Both antennas should be orientated to magnetic heading 230. I'd expect ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS and FOX.
How many TVs do you plan to serve? Before I go deeper into your setup, the # of televisions being served will create different requirements for the system.
Cheers.
