Looking for help in San Diego

Moving into a new construction townhome with three stories. From what I can tell, the signal strength is pretty strong for the channels I care about, just the major networks. Our place is three stories, so the plan is to mount an indoor antenna on the third floor and split for two tvs, one next to the antenna and another on the first floor, so maybe a 50 foot coax run.

Questions:

1. Would I be fine with a fairly cheap and simple antenna? Anyone in particular you would recommend.
2. The transmitters are in two main locations almost 180 degrees from each other. Given this situation, would getting a dipole antenna actually be preferable to getting a multidirectional?
3. I have two main mounting options: either right inside a window or up in the attic. The difference in height would only be about 6 feet, but the attic would require a longer cable run. Is one better than the other?

Thanks for any help that can be provided!
