I built a 4 bay bowtie diy years ago. The thing was outdoors and rusted to the point of being unusable. I've never fussed with any DIY antennas since.
The gray hoverman, from my recollection would be overkill. It is also a UHF only design. Which puts you back at having antenna that isn't designed for VHF (ABC). Further, that antenna is designed more for weaker signals. Not a problem you have. Your issue is multiple headings and antennas that can flex with those headings and give you the band coverage you need.
You might see someone building a Gray Hoverman to attempt Dallas for example if they had your tvfool plot.
DIY can be fun, but I've found that current antennas on the market can provide the desired reception quite well - unless you are experimenting or chasing gray shaded signals.
