I have had F connectors loose their ability to make a solid contact to the coax center conductor. The results can vary from intermittent problems to complete failure to connect. A visual inspection of the TV tuner input connector (with a magnifying glass) would be in order.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
