Re. the FL6550A; The claim of 60 mile reception is likely based on ideal conditions, a clear line of sight, no obstructions and no hills in the way. Your conditions are not ideal by that measure.
Your report strongly suggests that you have no risk of installing an antenna that's 'overkill'.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
