Asphalt shingles, tar paper and wood are usually not too much a problem. Metal flashing, gutters, foil layers on insulation, duct work and pipes are all great at reflecting and blocking signals. Stucco reinforcing wire and mesh is a very effective signal barrier also.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
