Have you tried removing the amplifier and it's power supply? The stronger signals should do quite well without it, and if overloading, it may be making reception worse, not better.
What stations are giving your trouble? (call sign & real CH-#)

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
