I asked about the possible assembly issues, because your description of the performance sounds familiar. A few other HD769X owners have resolved similar symptoms after re-checking and correcting the assembly.

If your antenna is actually at 50' AGL (a two story roof would be roughly 20' to 25' AGL) it suggests you've got a 3 or 4 story home, or a 20' to 30' mast.

All that aside, the HD7698P should be performing a bit better according to your TVFR. Are you aiming through the typical NW Douglas Fir?

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
