I would try a basic (inexpensive) set top antenna with no amplifier (built-in or external). (http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp...or%20Only&sku=) is an example. If you are still using an analog tuner/TV, expect ghosting and other interference. If you have a DTV capable tuner or converter, I expect that you will be amazed at the quality of the picture on CH. 38 PBS. As Canada switches to DTV, expect the quality of the pictures on all channels to improve dramatically.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
