I am waiting for a 5' tripod myself. (Ronard model 811). If installed correctly (including pitch pads under each 'foot') a tripod makes a very durable, long lasting & leak-free mast base.
I'm using a 10.5' chain-link fence top rail for the mast.
I would mount the 91XG at the top. In your case, take advantage of the tilt function built into the clamp mechanism. Aim for the ridge top between you and the transmitters.
Mount the VHF antenna about 4' below the upper antenna.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
