It could be multipath, or it could be interference generated by any number of sources. Again, as in the case of the signal from the CW affiliate, experimentation with antenna height and location is in order.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
