Any antenna, regardless of size or cost, will need to be aimed at the transmitter towers. Those are almost entirely due east of your location. If your balcony gives you the opportunity to 'look' east, then you have a very good shot at great reception. If you are forced to aim through obstructions, you may still have good reception... It's going to depend on what the obstruction is made of. Metal and concrete are not nice to OTA TV signals, they block and reflect much more than glass and wood.
If you placed a Terk HDTVi near your TV, would it be able to point east without obstructions? If 'no', then what type of building and vegetation would it be pointed toward?

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
