Well, by design, the bow tie is for UHF reception. The Leaf has two bow ties (similar to an Eagle Aspen dtv2buhf, minus the reflector). Sure, put it near a strong VHF signal and it will pick it up, but not as well as a VHF design will. I'd never suggest anyone attempt to tune a signal without the correct antenna. Spending time and money on the wrong tool is a waste, IMO. Getting the best signal strength means you get the best reception, even in adverse conditions.
If OP gets the Leaf, maybe he can post back with results, specifically signal strength for Ch 3.
