To the east is another apartment in our building. East of that is another building, slightly higher than ours then another, and then a few more, then a street across which is a large public park. Southeast, the same - another apartment, then another building, then still more (but no park). We are on the northwest corner of our building. There is a space of about 20 feet (?) between us and the next building to the west. That building extends to our southwest. We are in a large apartment complex in an area that has a number of large apartment complexes. The buildings south of us are on a slightly higher elevation, to the north of us it's a bit lower. To the west the building elevations are just a bit lower for a while, then rise again with the terrain.
We are not allowed satellite dishes. We cannot attach anything to the building, nor can we drill holes in any walls to snake cables. The dishes on other complexes in the general area all have their satellite dishes pointing south, and we don't have a south - even if we were allowed to have dishes.

The best I could do with an outside unit was to put it on a pole and put the pole in a bucket of rocks on the balcony, but then we'd be back to the problem of having to snake co-ax into the house through a sliding door. Fine during the summer, not so fine during the winter/rainy season. And the only directions I could point it without immediately being blocked by a building would be N, NW, NE, and the nearby buildings are...well, nearby. The bedroom window looks down a long drive (1/8th of a mile?) before the next complex interferes with line-of-sight. There are some very tall buildings (as in 20 to 40 stories) about a half mile away NW and also NE.
Does any of that help?
