I currently have the leaf antenna on one TV and can pull in several stations to the NE and I would like to get a couple of the stations from the NW (KSNT and WIBW). Do I need to upgrade to an outside antenna? Or, can I get away with getting an antenna booster? I don't really understand how to calculate the extra dB needed to acquire those stations.
Thanks for any help!

What direction does the leaf point to? Have you tried different orientations, like facing it NE or NW? You'll have to rescan after a change. The leaf is a double bowtie design w/o a reflector (compared to a similar DB2 outdoor antenna). It would need to face East or West, meaning that the reverse side would face the opposite. Since it doesn't have a deflector, you may be able to obtain signal from both directions. Certainly can't hurt to try since you already have it. I'd try also aiming it right at KSNT 289 deg magnetic to see if you get it.
That said, a booster doesn't help in your case.
Your situation is that you want to pull in channels from two near opposite directions, with some terrain obstructions along the way, which presents its challenges.
An outdoor antenna will perform better, although trees, buildings, etc can impact signal. The double bowtie design of the leaf is not optimal for the VHF stations like WIBW. An antenna like the Antennas Direct C2-V-CJM with the reflector removed would be able to tune the VHF more reliably as well as tune from both directions. Without the reflector, you weaken the strength of the signals from one direction, which is a trade off. So it's not a slam dunk guarantee that it's gonna work.
