It sounds as if you may need to consider using an outdoor antenna indoors.
The RCA ANT-751 is not so large that it can't fit inside. Of course, the esthetics are for you to judge.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
