Help Choosing Antenna System

Hello everyone!

I've decided to cut the cord on cable TV, and would like some assistance in choosing an antenna system for my location.

As an experiment, I whipped up a quick (and crude) homemade DB4 antenna this morning, and mounted it about 5ft above roof level. With only rudimentary aiming, I'm able to get about 17 total channels.

My specific details are: brick ranch house, metal roof, approximately 3 - 4 TV's in the home, single splitter at the cable entrance.

My TV Fool report is:

A friend suggested a Winegard, and I'm familiar with that brand as it is what I have on my RV. I would really like to avoid a motor on the antenna if possible. I'd like to keep this simple.

Thanks in advance for any advice, and I'll try to answer any additional questions as best as I can.
