Many of the available signals at your location are still broadcast on VHF frequencies. An 8-bay antenna will limit you to UHF reception for the most part.

If I was building an antenna system in these conditions, yes, I would use a high quality preamp.

Rotators are not my favorite accessory but the alternative is multiple fixed aim antennas.

If one or more analog station in your area is to remain on a low VHF channel for some time, a large all channel antenna (like your existing Yagi or the Winegard HD7082 or 7084) would be reasonable. (You may be able to find more local knowledge of the current Canadian Analog -> Digital transition at digitalhome.ca. They have individual forums for the various areas in Canada.)

If you need to rotate a large TV antenna, you may want to consider the HyGain AR-40... It's three to four times the cost of consumer grade TV antenna rotators, but far stronger. The NTE U-106 rotator kit and TB-105 Support Bearing are physically stronger also.
