With due respect to the TV repairman and their local knowledge, I don't believe a large antenna is needed at your specific location.

If I were in your situation, I'd roof mount a UHF 4-bay panel antenna such as the DB4e, U4000, HD4400 or CM-4221. Aimed at about 150°.

I would add a second antenna, a high-VHF such as a Y5713. Aimed the opposite direction, about 327°.

This combination would not need any amplifier while being able to supply signal to as many as four sets. You would expect to see ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC and PBS.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
