Have you tested reception with the CS2 outside?

If you must make the attic installation work, I'd suggest using the highest gain UHF antenna that will fit. An Antennas Direct 91XG is not overkill IMO. Some attics can attenuate more than 20 dB... especially when the roof is loaded with wet snow. If that is happening to you, all of the gain of the large antenna would be needed.

Outside in the clear, a far more compact antenna such as the CS2 should be able to receive all the signals from 228° compass.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
