I don't think an indoor antenna will work well for you. Amplifiers really won't help, either, as all they do is keep the signal captured by the antenna from getting lost in the cable to the TV. Since cables from an indoor antenna are pretty short, there's really no loss to worry about.

I'd recommend putting an antenna like the AntennaCraft HBU-33 or Winegard 7694 in the attic or an RCA ANT-751 outside.
