Attics attenuate and reflect signals. Exactly how much depends on the materials used and the moisture in and on the roof. Wet snow can make an otherwise reliable attic install unusable.
I would opt for a Winegard HD7694P or larger, if it will fit in the space. Point toward 85° compass.
If you can mount outside, clear of obstructions, an RCA ANT-751 would be sufficient.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
