Loosing the longest rod at the back will impact reception of the low VHF channels (real channel 2 through 6) the most. I would expect real channels 14 and higher will be nearly unaffected.

It's hard to know the exact effect to expect on real channels 7 through 13 (high VHF).

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
