NF = Noise Figure. It's a measure of the amount of noise the amplifier will add to the signal as it passes through the amplifier. It would be nice if the amplifier did not add any noise which would be expressed as a NF of 0 dB. The reality is that all amplifiers will add some noise. The lower the NF, the better. I would not be at all surprised to find the NF of the Radio Shack amp to be around 6 dB.

Once noise has been mixed with a signal, an amplifier can not remove it.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
