Winegard HD8200 u and Rotor

Do you need a heavy duty rotor to adequately handle this antenna? Or will something like the Antennacraft HDP2 or NTE U-106 handle this?

Just about anything should work if the mast above the rotor is less than a foot. A heavier duty rotor will retain synch better than the low end Chinese units for sure.

The Channel Master rotor is the sturdiest and most reliable/affordable rotor China has to offer. I would use nothing but for that large antenna, and keep the mast low as recommended by No static at all.

Test run the rotor on the ground (or bench) and leave it in the counter-clockwise position (000)before installing, aim it and the antenna magnetic North. This will allow you to use the TVF radar report to locate your channels.
