Antenna Selection Help Needed in WV
 

I tried searching the forums for research from West Virginia but couldn't find too many hits so I'm reaching out for expert advise. :)

I live in a single story house on top of a hill but shadowed by a large hill with a religious and a home shoppers network broadcast towers (which I don't care about) to my north and a ridge line with trees to my east. I currently have an old satellite mount attached to my roof which has visibility to the north, east, and south but is blocked by the roof to the west. About a year ago I purchased an Eagle Aspen DTV2BUFH pointed about 60 degrees from magnetic north from http://www.amazon.com/Eagle-Aspen-Dt...8755422&sr=8-1 as a cheap test. It currently picks up WSAZ, WCHS, WVAH, WLPX, WQCW but does not receive WPBY nor WOWK. I understand WOWK is on high VHF which is outside the band of this antenna so that is to be expected.

Also with the Eagle Aspen I occasionally get signal loss for a few seconds or pixelation and ghosting from the degraded signal on WSAZ which I'd like to remedy.

From the antenna mount there is around 30 feet of former satellite coax running to my basement which hooks into a home theater computer (HTPC) which has a TV tuner card installed and acts as my free to me DVR on a 120" projector. :D

I'm wanting something to throw up on my satellite roof mount to replace the Eagle Aspen which will maintain my current selection but also add in WPBY and WOWK.

The RCA ANT751 or 751R (same antenna) is fairly small and would be a good choice to mount on the satellite mount. This antenna is High VHF (7-13) and UHF, should fix the problems with WOWK 13, and improve your overall reception.

Install a ANT751/R antenna aimed at about 90 degrees magnetic compass.

I purchased the RCA ANT751R as suggested from Amazon and got it in yesterday . I'll work this weekend on getting it up on the roof and reply with the results.

If WCHS-DT , Real UHF channel 41 ABC is not received , install a Antennas Direct CPA-19.

I was able (finally) to get the new antenna mounted up on the roof. I was trying to make it work with the TV tuner but was able to get a station I wanted and tried moving it to tune in a different station and would flip back and realize I lost the first one. Disgruntled that it didn't look like this antenna was going to work for me, I decided test my theory about the TV tuner card inside my computer not working correctly.

I took a Dynex 32" LCD and hooked up the same coax without adjusting the antenna and was getting reception on many more channels then what I was getting with my PC tuner. After discovering this I then tried fine tuning the antenna position to get reception on all the channels that I wanted. Strangely enough when I adjusted the antenna I found that with it turned at about 12 degrees to magnetic north I was getting reception on everything that I wanted. My only guess as to why this works at 12 degrees is because the signal is bouncing off the hill to my north.

My problem is a few channels (WCHS comes in clear) are not coming in very well and are throwing pixel artifacts and brief cut outs. The antenna was fine until I locked it down into position which I must of just barely moved it. I've already resolved that my TV tuner in the computer is likely bad, however I'm wondering if an amplifier would be recommended for the weak signal or if that's going to cause me more problems by throwing the gain up too high on the channels I'm able to get in without artifacts.
