Reception with attic antenna install

I am trying to receive some distant stations from an attic antenna.

TV Fool report:
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...b1a8ea34751bda

Current setup is Winegard HD7694p with Winegard HDP269 signal amplifier. The antenna and amp are in my attic about 25 feet from ground level. I have one single RG6 cable run about 35ft to my downstairs tv. The Antenna is pointing south.

I would like to receive the Baltimore local channels, specifically WBAL (11.1), WMAR (2.1), WJZ (13.1), WBFF (45.1), WNUV (54.1)

Right now i have managed to receive WBAL, WMAR, and WNUV. I cannot receive WJZ or WBFF at all.

Is there any reason why i cannot receive the other 2 channels? Eventually i would like to setup 2 antennas - one used for the baltimore locals, and the other used for the nearby area locals. If i should be using a different antenna which should i choose?

If you are going with two antennas. One for local. and one for Baltimore, lets start with the easy ones. Use an RCA ANT751 aimed toward Harrisburg, with no amplifier. This should receive All of Harrisburg, and your York/Lancaster stations. You may need to play with positioning, but lean towards Harrisburg if you want WHTM. The signal for WHTM is not what is showing on your report. It is a little weak in Red Lion.

For Baltimore from your attic, the 7694 antenna may not be enough to overcome the -5.8 db showing up for WJZ or WBFF. You could try a more powerfull amplifier. I am not a huge fan of installing a high gain amplifier to make up for an antenna with not enough gain, however a Channel Master 7777 with 30 db gain verses the 12db from your Winegard may work . A much easier fix, worth trying. When you go to the two antenna system you will need to run seperate coax and use an A/B switch. DO NOT COMBIND ANTENNAS INTO ONE COAX. You can pick up the 7777 at Cumberland Electronics in Harrisburg. 888-501-9658.

I have tried the Winegard AP8275 amplifier but it caused overload and i couldnt receive anything. The 7694 can receive all my nearby locals fine if i aim it north towards harrisburg. If i get another antenna for the baltimore locals I would consider keeping the 7694 it for my harrisburg locals.

What if I upgraded to the Winegard HD7697 for Baltimore. Can i just aim both antennas and combine with a splitter?

Since your system is working fine for local, install the 7697 and the stronger 7777 amplifier for Baltimore. You must run seperate coax and an A/B switch. Combinding the antennas will result in lost signal in both systems.

No static at all 21-May-2012 11:55 PM

IMO, both channels are too weak for reliable reception with any attic antenna. If you can get the antenna outside you may see WJZ, but WBFF is highly unlikely with strong adjacent channel 47 right in your backyard.

Even the most tolerant pre-amp will worsen things. A distribution amplifier may help if more than one set will be connected. The Channel Master 3414 is extremely resistant to overload.

Do you see any signal from Baltimore's WUTB-24?

I totally agree with No Static.

Tv Antennas and Tv Reception

ALL antennas will be mounted above the roof.
This recommendation is based on the Current Plus Pending Applications Included of the tvfool radar plot for digital Tv stations/channels.

For the easy to receive stations to the , north west , north , north east . And the VERY STRONG WGCB-DT channel 30 IND. that is to the south east .
Install a ANT751 antenna aimed at about 30 degree magnetic compass. Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

For reception of the VERY WEAK Tv stations/channels the south , WBAL-TV channel 11 NBC , WJZ-TV 13 channel NBC , WMAR-TV channel 38 ABC , WNUV-DT channel 40 CW , WBFF channel 46 FOX .
Install a Winegard HD7698P antenna aimed at about 195 degree magnetic compass. Here is how to aim antennas. http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.
Do not use a preamplifier with the HD7698P antenna , a preamp will overload because of the Very Strong WGCB and the over loaded preamp will be the cause of bad or no reception of other channels.

Do Not use a preamplifier with the ANT751 or HD7698P antennas.

The ANT751 and HD7698P antennas will be 2 Separate antenna systems and Separate coax systems all the way to the TV.
The 2 Separate antenna and coax systems will go all the way to the Tv and connect to a remote control A/B antenna switch and the output of the the A/B antenna switch will connect to The Tv. http://www.radioshack.com , # 15-1968 , or , http://www.mcmelectronics.com/ , # 32-4425 .
