Very few channels, Help!
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...30eed06b<br />
I am only picking up 4 channels and feel with my setup I should be getting more. I have the typical Yagi antenna, its big, I'd say 8ft long. It was on our house when we moved in. It's mounted on the roof with a tripod mount with a 10ft mast. I'd say its 25ft off of the ground. The antenna is connected with a radioshack matching transformer with 2ft of Rg-6 cable to a winegard AP-8275 amp. Then about 30ft of Rg-6 to a Channel Master 3214 4-way spliter with another 20ft of Rg-6 to the TV (built in digital tuner). The antenna is pointed at around 225 degrees (true north). I only get channels 8,13,23, and 49. I also get analog channel 61, I have no clue why, it is only static. Am I getting interference from something? Also I'm guessing my antenna is not the best choice for digital signal. Also one night I did a channel scan and also picked up 6,33, and 59 for about 30 min during that time analog 61 went away. Any help is appreciated, thank you in advance. -Kern2011 |
It sounds as if the existing antenna is a VHF only design or, it may be worn/damaged.
Also, it sounds like you're referring to the virtual channel numbers rather than the real channel numbers. If I was starting from scratch, focusing my efforts on receiving the group of station to the SW, I'd opt for a Winegard HD7696P and an Antennas Direct CPA-19. |
Tv Antennas and Tv Reception
Install a Winegard HD7696P antenna with The Winegard AP8275 preamp aimed at about 210 degree magnetic compass , south/west . Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.
Use the AP8275 preamp. For one Tv connected use no splitter , For 2 Tv's connected use a 2 way splitter , For 3 Tv's connected use a 3 way splitter , For 4 Tv's connected use a 4 way splitter. Every time a split takes place the signal gets weaker. The CM3214 splitter Does Not pass power thru the splitter. So ALL parts of the amplifier must be on the input side of the splitter between the antenna and the splitter. The Tv/s Must scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels sometimes named the 'Antenna Channels' or 'Air Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna. Do Not scan for cable Tv channels. Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.winegarddirect.com , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com . |
Did you install the amplifier? You say the amplifier goes directly into a splitter. Your amplifier should should run to the amplifier power supply before the splitter. If not, There is your problem.
